Plenary Session Led by Women Changing the Game in the Climbing World

Despite climbing’s roots as an elite male sport, climbing as a sport and as an industry is stacked with female role models who transcend this history.  Women are climbing some of the hardest routes and boulders in the world, and are advancing in an industry that is overwhelmingly male and white. The groundwork laid by these impressive women in climbing offers our industry the opportunity to move away from gender stereotypes and impart values of equality.

With this panel discussion, we will listen to the experiences of athletes and professionals in the climbing industry and offer insight towards developing progressive, inclusive workplaces, gyms, and crags. We will explore the history of women in climbing in athletic and professional contexts, celebrate accomplishments, identify past and existing challenges, and provide the tools to help develop and nurture climbing communities and professional environments that are inclusive of women.
